I have spent around two decades working across education, leadership and digital delivery, helping people navigate complexity, make decisions and work more effectively together. My experience spans teaching and school leadership, delivery management and coaching.
I kept seeing capable teams encounter the same unclear decisions, tensions and recurring obstacles despite working exceptionally hard. Insight Rings grew from a desire to make those patterns visible, so people can understand their choices rather than simply push harder.
Years of working alongside teams and leaders revealed something that effort alone does not resolve: people interpret the same situation differently, respond from familiar habits and often cannot see the assumptions shaping their decisions.
Inspired by Musashi’s Five Rings, Insight Rings uses Earth, Water, Fire, Wind and Void as perspectives for exploring those behaviours. It creates a shared language for discussing choices without treating anyone as a fixed personality type.
The thinking is developed in my book, The Five Rings of Delivery – Leadership as Behavioural Energy in Complex Systems, and brought to life in the facilitated Insight Rings workshop. The intention is practical: see the situation, understand the pattern and choose what to change.
